Land Of My Fathers

Passionate about Wales – Land of my Fathers.  The Land of Song, Mountains, Myths and Legends, Stunning Scenery, and so much more:

“Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mâd,
Tros ryddid gollasant eu gwaed.
Gwlad, Gwlad, pleidiol wyf i’m gwlad,
Tra môr yn fur i’r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i’r heniaith barhau.
Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd,
Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn, i’m golwg sydd hardd;
Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol yw si
Ei nentydd, afonydd, i mi.
Gwlad, Gwlad, pleidiol wyf i’m gwlad,
Tra môr yn fur i’r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i’r heniaith barhau.
Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad dan ei droed,
Mae hen iaith y Cymry mor fyw ag erioed,
Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law brad,
Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad.
Gwlad, Gwlad, pleidiol wyf i’m gwlad,
Tra môr yn fur i’r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i’r heniaith barhau.”
The song is usually sung in Welsh but here is a version in English, sung by Paul Robeson.

Land Of My Fathers

“Dear land of my fathers, whose glories were told

By bard and by minstrel who loved thee of old;

Dear country whose sires, that their sons might be free,

Have suffered and perished for thee!

Wales! Wales! Land of mist and wild,

Where’er I roam,

Though far from my home,

The mother is calling her child.

The Lords of great Snowdon in brave days of yore

For thee fought for freedom by Mona’s green shore

Their courage undaunted inspires all our lays

Our harps ere resound to their praise.

Wales! Wales! Land of mist and wild,

Where’er I roam,

Though far from my home,

The mother is calling her child

Wales! Wales! Land of mist and wild,

Where’er I roam,

Though far from my home,

The mother is calling her child.”

[“Snowdon” is the highest mountain in Wales, “Mona” is the original name for the Isle of Anglesey/Ynys Mon, an island off the coast of North Wales. “Yore” is an older term for old, “lays” is an older term for songs.]

  1. extraordinary beautiful land, especially since you could capture all the wide open spaces and the impressive sky. Beautiful, simply nothing else to add.

  2. Amazing photos and excellent videos. Thank you very much for sharing 🌹💓

  3. Thank you so much for sharing the music. The Anthem, sung both at the Royal Albert Hall and the game brought tears to my eyes, it was so stirring. I was always a huge fan of Paul Robeson but I’ve never heard him singing this before. Wonderful! And your pictures of Wales are gorgeous!

    • I’m so pleased you like the music, Sue. You felt the emotion as I do. The photos are from the archives, as Autumn has not yet arrived here in North Wales. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she’s going to be a colourful one.

  4. Beautiful photographs, the one of the heart on the beach in Porthmadog brought back memories of such a wonderful day.

I am waiting for the leaves to start changing colour now . nothing much happening at the moment.

Autumn is here now and I hope we have a brilliant display of colour from the the trees and foliage.

Capel Celyn is now open to the public, it was on the welsh news last week.

Glad your days are full and productive , having peace of mind is bringing wonderful results for you.

Enjoy every day and take care of yourself.

    • Thank you, Julie. Lovely to hear from you. I’m looking forward to the Autumn colours too. Hopefully we’ll be able to get out on some field trips.
Yes, I saw the article on the Welsh news re Capel Celyn. A trip there would be good also.
Hope all is well with you.

  5. Incredible photos of amazing sights you must be just breathless all the time you are taking them
So very good to see you here again. I’ve missed you!

  6. In your comment, whenever I click on wlaesforevercymru, I get “no longer exists.” I suggest you get in touch with WP support. It’s probably a minor detail. But it can make you lose traffic.

  7. Some splendid views there!

Du bist so nett. Segne dich, mein Freund.
